Jubilee coming ... register your interest!

We’ll be celebrating a milestone 85 years at Wellington East next October.  The date is yet to be finally confirmed but we’ve pencilled in the weekend before Labour weekend 2010.

Initial planning suggests there'll be a cocktail function on the Friday evening, followed by
school tours and a Jubilee Dinner on the Saturday.  We’re also considering arranging some
kind of (short!) variety performance illustrating the best of what the modern day
Wellington East has to offer.

We want to make the Jubilee easy to organise and manage, and affordable to attend.  You can help by registering your interest in attending by emailing us Include your name, email, postal and telephone contacts,  the years you attended Wellington East, and if you like, details of anyone else you know who might be interested in attending the Jubilee.  To assist the organising process, it would be  great if Old Girls could get in touch with their former school friends and get a group together, then contact us.  We can list groups on the website, so others from your year can see who’s coming and join in.

To prepare for the jubilee, we're also putting together a short term working group. If you're prepared to help out and sign on for the jubilee working group (service required for a limited period only!) please contact Janice at jarca@xtra.co.nz, or let us know via the usual Once Were Easters email. Thanks!

Bonds and laughter at first OWE "staffroom lunch"

We kicked off the first in what we plan will be a series of celebratory "staffroom lunches" last November when 26 OWEs (Once Were Easters) went where no former pupil had been allowed to go before - the staffroom!  Some came solo, others with former schoolmates, but from the first wine to the last spoonful of delicious food from Michelin star rated chef Chris Boswell the room was abuzz with memories and laughter.

While some thought at first they wouldn’t have much in common with the other OWEs, they soon found  themselves laughing and nodding in recognition as each Old Girl drew
a picture of life since college days. All shared a place and stage in life in common with the others; like school or hate it, those were formative years.

The first of the Once Were Easters celebratory staff room lunches was held in the College staff room on Saturday 22 November 2008, with a Christmas theme.  Former pupils from the 1930s to the 70s came along and shared stories and a few laughs. One thing that really stood out - even if they hadn't known each other before, or been at Wellington East at the same time, there was still a bond between all those present.

We look forward to seeing their faces again at the next lunch, and hope for some 'new' faces as well.

CtteeRevitalising the Old Girls' Association

A new Old Girls' Association Committee was created in March 2008, with a new vision for the Association. Made up of both new and former members of the OGA, the new Committee plans to revitalise the OGA and make it more rewarding and fun to be part of: more events, more members, more fun. Already we have a new name for the OGA: Once Were Easters.  This name also lends itself to our newsletter.

Read more about your committee in the October issue of the Once Were Easters newsletter (link below).

Once were easters(newsletter)

Once Were Easters is our newsletter, issued approximately three times a year, which brings you information and news from former pupils, what they're up to and where they're meeting, as well as the latest info from the Old Girls' Association and about what is happening at our old school.  Your contribution to the content of Once Were Easters will make all the difference to how interesting and up to date it is.  If you have photos, news of former students or ideas for year group get togethers, let us know and we can put it in the newsletter, and keep you in touch with other 'old girls'.  To suggest content and news for the newsletter just email the Editor.
