Old Girls' Reunion 2010

There was a fun assembly including a formal welcome, a huge birthday cake for all to share, a delicious packed lunch from our special caterer, self-guiding school tours, photos (fun and formal) ... and it all culminated in a sparkling  evening cocktail function.  There was a speech by MP Annette King and performances by the school kapa haka group and old girl, Aivale Cole.

See photos from the event on Jo Moore's site.  There are formal photos of year groups and informal photos of the events.

Dining in Style - Christmas 2009

CHRISTMAS 2009 WAS CELEBRATED IN STYLE BY a bunch of festive Once Were Easters in November.   They came from as far away as Sydney, Auckland and Christchurch especially to attend our al fresco (outdoor) bar-b-que lunch – and it was worth it!

The  quad was the perfect venue.  The sun shone, the wind held back, and the food as always (thanks to our usual special Once Were Easters caterer) was delicious.  We even managed to sing the old school song with some gusto and a few laughs – though admittedly some of the ‘younger’ ones needed help with the words – which thankfully, were printed in the fundraising 2010 WEGC Calendar we just happened to have on hand.  The calendar's produced by the WEGC PTA (and copies are only $15, buy it from the college).

It was our third Once Were Easters lunch under the new committee and all agreed it was an event worth attending - so look out for details of the next social luncheon coming to you in 2011, following the fun and festivities of the upcoming Labour Weekend 2010 reunion.  Check out the photos below - see if there's anyone there you recognise.

Once Were Easters who attended the end of year 2009 Christmas lunch outdoors in the quad enjoyed the food, company and song.  They came from as far away as Sydney, Auckland and Christchurch.  Recognise anyone??

Bonds and laughter at 2008 OWE

"staffroom lunch"

We kicked off the first in what we planned as a series of celebratory "staffroom lunches" in November 2008 when 26 OWEs (Once Were Easters) went where no former pupil had been allowed to go before - the staffroom!  Some came solo, others with former schoolmates, but from the first wine to the last spoonful of delicious food from Michelin star rated chef Chris Boswell, the room was abuzz with memories and laughter.

While some thought at first they wouldn’t have much in common with the other OWEs, they soon found  themselves laughing and nodding in recognition as each Old Girl drew a picture of life since college days. All shared a place and stage in life in common with the others; like school or hate it, those were formative years.

The first of the Once Were Easters celebratory staff room lunches in the College staff room in  November 2008, brought together former pupils from the 1930s to the 1970s.  If they hadn't known each other before, or been at Wellington East at the same time, there was nevertheless a recognisable bond between all those present.
