Education In NZ

Special Relations with International Schools and Students

Wellington East Girls' College is a multi-cultural school. We have students from many countries in the world who come to the college as either International students or via an exchange organisation. The countries they are from include Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, The People's Republic of China, India, Fiji, Samoa and Germany.

Student Welfare

The Director of International Students is available to provide help and guidance with both school-related and personal aspects of the student's stay in New Zealand, including choice of subjects, orientation to a new school and a new environment, providing 'buddies' for new students and arranging social evenings for International students and their host families.

Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education of the New Zealand government has published a Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.

Accommodation

Our Homestay Administrator meets new students at the airport, arranges homestay accommodation as required and is available at the College to assist with any matters related to accommodation.

English Language Entry Requirements

Copies of the most recent school reports must be sent to us for translation. It is preferred that students have an intermediate level of English. Students will be offered additional English language classes as needed and may be sent to an Intensive English language school to undertake a Secondary School Preparation course if this is deemed necessary. All students are tested on entry and are placed appropriately at a level at which they can best achieve success.

English Language Support

Intensive English tuition by experienced qualified staff is offered at all levels. There is no extra charge for this tuition which will continue for as long as the student needs it. In-class support is provided in some subjects with specialist vocabularies.
