Good day everybody! My name is Hatayatham Pukdeetanakul or "Gam" as everyone calls me for short. First of all, I would like to tell you how pleased I am to be able to share my short, but lovely story of my school life in New Zealand.
Looking back at the day when I first started at Wellington East Girls’ College as a Year 11 student, I can’t believe how fast time has flown. I can still remember how nervous I felt back then when I went into my very first lesson, but at the first sight of the friendly and cheerful faces of my teacher and friends, the feeling of nervousness evaporated. My teachers and friends were kind to me and made me feel as though I was still at my old school in Thailand. I soon settled in and became used to life in New Zealand.
I came to New Zealand with a few ‘life-saving’ words, for instance "Hello," "Thank you," and "Sorry." Without the help and support from my host family, my English would not have improved so much. As well as playing a huge role in my learning of English, they also gave me a clear image of what New Zealand culture is like. They are always caring and kind, and they have made me feel at home.
Two years have flown past in a blink of an eye. I am now in Year 12 and my English is still developing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my teachers and friends for making my two years here most enjoyable. I would also like to thank my host mum and dad who have always looked after me as their second daughter. Thanks also to the people in my school for providing me with such a valuable experience. I have learnt a lot from this school, Wellington East Girls’ College – my second home.
