Mathematics

Each year in Mathematics students study topics from the three strands of the National Curriculum; Number and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Statistics. We encourage all students to reach their potential in our subject by promoting their confidence and enjoyment as well as their skills and understanding.

Student Work and Events

Maths-Resized2

The annual MathsWell competitions took place in August. Each year there are separate competitions on different evenings for Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students from every school across the region. All the students represented us superbly, but special congratulations must be bestowed on our Year 10 and Year 11 teams who were both the top Girls’ team at their event.

Programme

Mathematics underpins everyday life for students and adults alike and is often crucial in problem-solving activities.

It is a compulsory subject in Years 9 and 10 where the focus is on building firm foundations for study in the senior years.

All students sit assessments towards an NCEA certificate in Year 11 with three different courses available to suit each student's aptitude and abilities.

Mathematics is optional from Year 12 onwards and splits in Year 13 when separate Calculus and Statistics courses are offered.  The pre-requisites for all our Year 12 and 13 courses are detailed in the Course Information and Qualifications booklet.
