Science
Students learn about the nature of science and the way in which scientists work. There is a focus on practical work and students develop investigative skills. Science is compulsory until Year 11 and then splits into Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Years 12 and 13. |

Hands On Science 2011
Several students attended this in January . They had a wonderful time and will be writing about their experiences in the School Magazine at the end of the year. Information about the 2012 course will be available on www.otago.ac.nz/handsonscience
Victoria University Chemistry Titration Competition
Two year 13 students took part in this practical competition this year. Students had to analyse a chemical and present s written report in a three hour period. Diana Osavlyuk was placed third and will receive a cheque and ccertificate.
Robot Roundup
A team of six students, 2 from year 11, 3 from year 12 and 1 year 13 student spent the first two days of the July holidays, learning to build a robot. They then took part in a tournament using their robot to move small rubber hoops onto a spike. Ten teams from around the Wellington area took part. Our team was the only 'girls only' team and they were commended on their focus and committment, as well as their team work. they had a great deal of fun, learnt a lot and are looking forward to future 'scrimmages', as the competitions are called.

Science is a compulsory subject in Years 9 and 10. All students sit assessments towards an NCEA certificate in Year 11 with three different courses available to suit each student's aptitude and abilities.
Science is optional after Year 11 and splits into Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Years 12 and 13.
The pre-requisites for all our Year 12 and 13 courses are detailed in the Course Information and Qualifications booklet.
