ESOL
WEGC has courses designed for students with different levels of English. We have a full-time reception class with a focus on basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. This class lays the foundation for the mainstream curriculum. When students are ready to move into some mainstream classes they are supported in our transition group and may be withdrawn from English and or Social Studies at Year 10.
Our teacher aides are available to support students in mainstream classes, particularly in the junior school. Other Year 10 classes that provide English language support are option classes in Science and Information Management. For students who are coping in mainstream classes but still need to work on their English skills there are option classes at all year levels. In Years 12 and 13 option classes focus on gaining credits for University Entrance literacy.
