Art
The Art department offers an environment where students can embrace creative processes across a range of disciplines. Students are encouraged and supported to extend their creative and technical skills, enabling them to approach problem-solving and idea development in new and exciting ways.
See photos from the Year 13 exhibition 'Space Invaders', which had items on display for Photography, Design, Sculpture and Painting students.
The junior Art programmes combines the development of practical skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and design with an emphasis on the generation and development of ideas and investigations into successful Visual Arts practice. Students build on a range of self management strategies, critical reflection and collaborative processes to clarify their ideas, preparing them for the requirements of NCEA Level 1 Art.
Level 1 Art is offered in two versions; one investigating a range of techniques based on the work of artists from a variety of sources, and the other looking specifically at the work of contemporary Maori and Pacific Island artists.
At Levels 2 and 3 we offer full year programmes in 4 Visual Art subjects plus Art History. These subjects are Painting, Design, Photography and Sculpture and each is taught by a subject specialist.
