Careers
At Wellington East Girls’ College we believe a sense of the future can invigorate and motivate learning. To this end we run a careers programme through all levels.
At Years 9, 10 and 11 this work is done through the form teacher as part of their pastoral care role. Students are encouraged to develop a sense of their strengths and interests and these ideas are collected in a portfolio for their further reference and on going reflection.
Courses for Year 12 and 13 students are offered in the Life Skills, Futures and Gateway Programmes. The Life Skills course is designed to develop the students’ interpersonal skills, self responsibility and understanding of the roles they can play in our society. The Futures Programme develops self management and self responsibility. Gateway enables students to undertake work based learning and courses are individually tailored to meet the employment interests of the students.
There is a strong guidance network within the school and discussions with family on the possible work and training direction of students is welcomed.
