Learning
Drama
The Drama department offers many opportunities for students to explore the exciting world of performing arts. The Drama and Dance programme allows students in all levels to devise, direct, choreograph and take part in a range of performances from Greek Drama, Melodrama, Cultural Dance, Elizabethan Theatre, scripted scenes and a class play.
We have a proud tradition of performance at East and students can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities across the school. Stage Challenge, House Plays, Pantomimes, Theatre Sports, Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and School Productions have been a huge success in 2008. Watch this space for information about new and exciting groups to be involved in.

Revenge Of The Amazons:
East's theatre company 'Super 14' [Level 3 Drama students] had a great time performing this New Zealand adaptation of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by Jean Betts. Glitter, fairy dust, 70s clobber and crepe paper added to the mystical world of fairies, mortal and thespians.
What Is Love?
Level 2 Drama students performed a selection of Shakespeare's romantic comedies and modern love songs in traditional Elizabthan garb. 'East of the Globe' explored scenes from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'As You Like It' and 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
One Act
'Sticks and Stones' and 'Out Of Your Mind' was performed by Level 1 students. These two one act plays explored the effects of bullying and looked at how our internal and external lives are very very different.
Eco Drama
The Year 12 class performed a piece to the Year 9s with an environmental theme in Term 2.
Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival
This year, the school entered three scenes in the Wellington Regional Festival at the end of term. Two student groups directed scenes from 'As You Like It' and 'Hamlet'. The teacher directed scene is 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' with a 70s flavour! WEGC won three prizes - another fabulous haul for us.
