Learning Support
The Learning Support Department provides assistance for students in mainstream classes. This support ranges from teacher aide guidance in classes, peer tutoring, reader/writer assistance for assessments and monitoring of literacy needs.
Learning needs are identified by way of AsTTle and PAT testing in Year 8, feedback from contributing schools, teacher observation and professional assessment provided by parents. Regular Independent Education Programme meetings are conducted to ensure that changing needs are identified and learning goals can be set.
Progression
Reading option
ASTTLE testing is conducted in Year 8 to indicate any students with possible literacy needs. It is recommended that students take the Reading Option to develop their literacy skills across the Curriculum.
This option is offered in Years 9 and 10 and is a focused programme to provide students with learning strategies.
Peer Tutoring
Students of all levels are offered extra support by year 13 Peer Tutors. Tutors provide support to individual students and classes. This assistance is offered when needs are highlighted by subject teachers.
