Thank You For the Music

Event Name Thank You For the Music
Start Date 25th Oct 2009
End Date
Duration N/A
Description

mrsjonesOn Friday the school had a festive afternoon concert for Mrs Jones, our soon-to-retire Head of Music.  See photos from the afternoon.

It was a glorious ocassion with each of the major bands and choirs performing specially chosen pieces and the school joining in as a mass choir for three songs.  It had all been organised in secret, with Mrs Jones sent on various wild-goose chases to keep her out of the way.

Mrs Jones has taught at the school for 25 years, so this was a very special tribute.  A highlight was a clip of various old-girls around the world singing 'Hey Jude', organised by Elinor Millar.  Music Prefect, Georgia Gray, had been organising the concert all year, with help from many people, and it went like clock-work from piece to piece.

Items included:

  • 'Blackbird' performed by the Small Choir
  • 'Songbird' performed by the Multi Choir
  • 'When I'm 65' with special words, sung by the school
  • 'Thank you for the Music', performed by the school
  • a Welsh song performed by the school, accompanied by piano and horns
  • pieces by the Concert Band and Orchestra by Mrs Jones's favourite composers
  • a kapa haka performance
