In an academic assembly last week, Julia Wells was presented with her scholarship from Victoria University.  It covers $4,500 of fees for her first year, and if her grades are good enough, will continue through her other years of study.

The staff at Victoria who oversee scholarships were impressed by Julia's responsible actions earlier in the year when she opted to not go to Japan for Science Camp, because she had committed to the regional debating team.

They saw an article about this in the Dominion Post, and rang up to find out more about Julia.  The following week, a letter arrived at school containing their generous offer, much to Julia's surprise.  It was a scholarship she had heard about and was interested in, and she had intended applying for scholarships at Victoria later in the year, but won't need to now.
