A dedicated team of WEGC seniors helped break the Guiness record for largest structure made out of cans.  The school council had organised a mufti day where students contributed cans instead of money, and those cans were taken, along with thousands of others from the city, to Civic Square.  They were donated to food banks around the city afterwards.

Students helped assemble the structure, even staying over-night to protect it from pilfering.  In the end they counted 54, 752 cans, breaking the previous record of 45,000.
