Multi Choir is directed by Mrs Hunt alongside student leaders Tofoi Sio & Renee Simpson. Multi Choir welcomes students from any year level. Multi Choir compete at The Big Sing and are well known for their brilliant gospel singing and many members are also part of Poly Club. Rehearsals are Tuesday lunch times in the Music Recital Room. Senior Choir is a fun student-conducted choir run by Amelia Buur & Summer Henderwood. Rehearsals are Monday lunch times in the Music Recital Room. They will compete at The Big Sing in June where they have previously won major regional awards. No audition required.
Rāwhiti (formerly known as Cantala) is an auditioned, international award winning choir directed by Miss Hooson. In 2012 they travelled to Singapore, London, Paris, and Vienna. They came 1st equal at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna. Two years ago Cantala travelled through China with the Wellington College Chorale and at the end of 2015, Cantala professionally recorded their first CD. Last year the choir performed Carmina Burana with the Orpheus Choir and Orchestra Wellington and continue to wow audiences everywhere. This year, the choir are working a range of pieces including Herbstlied, in German, Girl in 14G (a musical theatre piece) and a piece written specially for Rāwhiti, in Te Reo, called Rāwhiti. The choir will premiere this piece at the Big Sing in Term 2.
Young Voices is an all comers student lead choir for all year 9 and 10 students. The choir is run by Francesca Fagan and Anastasia Reid. The choir rehearses on Monday lunch times in the Music Tech Room and is working on three different pieces that explore different languages. No audition required.
Jazz Band brings together all sorts of musicians from drummers, guitarists, trumpeters, saxophonists, flautists, to pianists. If your desire is to play Jazz but you play the Violin, come along! Jazz band is directed by our Clarinet and Saxophone teacher Frankie Curac. Rehearsals are on Wednesday’s straight after school (2:20pm) in the Music Recital Room. No audition required.
Orchestra (Terms 3 & 4)
Orchestra is an all-comers orchestra for any student who plays an orchestral instrument. The orchestra welcomes students of all abilities, including beginners. Rehearsals are Friday lunch times, terms 3 & 4 in the Music Recital Room. No audition required.
Chamber Music Friday
Chamber Music Friday is a new initiative this year. If you play an instrument and would like to work in a small group with others of similar abilities to you, then please come and see Miss Hooson in the Music Office. Rehearsals will be Friday lunch times in the Music department. No audition required. You never know, if you feel confident enough, you could even enter the NZ Chamber Music Contest. In 2015-2016 a student at WEGC made it to the finals (receiving 1st place in 2015 - the first time for a Wellingtonian in over 15 years).

Brass Ensemble is a new group this year for students who are learning or already play a brass instrument (trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba etc). The group is facilitated by Miss Hooson and rehearses on Monday lunch times in the Music Recital Room. No audition required, all abilities welcome.
