The Wellington East Girls' College Sports Department focuses on two pathways for students: participation and performance.
The participation pathway provides sporting opportunities for all students and can be both competitive and social. At all times we promote and encourage fair play and good sportsmanship.
The performance pathway is for students making the school premier teams, New Zealand squads, age groups or development teams, and is underpinned by a philosophy of support, growth and empowerment.
We have over 30 different sports available and students can choose to play in teams that have been trialed and selected or they may put teams together with friend groups. These social teams play in the same competition as the trialed teams. We encourage all students to participate and enjoy the sports offered at WEGC.
In 2022, on a local level WEGC won the Premier Badminton and Floorball competitions and placed runners up in the Football, Waterpolo, Underwater Hockey and Hockey.
WEGC has excellence onsite sports facilities for the students to enjoy and to maintain their fitness. These include two school gymnasiums, 3 netball courts, an indoor swimming pool, a football field and a specialist fitness centre.
