Travel / NCEA Information - Tuesday 19 November 2024
On Tuesday 19 November Hīkoi mō te Tiriti will reach Wellington city. We have received some advice from the Ministry of Education and New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
A reminder we have our Junior Parent- Teacher Interviews (online) Thursday 12th September. Please remember that to enable these meetings to happen, students of all Year levels will finish school after Session 3 (11:55am). Buses will run at the usual time.
We wanted to remind everyone of some important dates to note for the rest of 2024. You are always able to check these dates on our public calendar which is published on the home page of the school website -https://www.wegc.school.nz/.
The course selection process for 2025 is now underway. Students can choose their courses for next year by logging into the portal. This will be a focus of their Manaaki time this week and next.
Our Parents Association WEPA are holding a mid-winter movie fundraiser to raise funds to support our WEGC students. Come join us for a winter movie - Bettlejuice Bettlejuice.
Everyone is welcome to attend and witness this amazing ceremony as a wider school whānau. We will have singing, kapa haka, and entertainment to commemorate the new year!
On Tuesday 7 May we are holding Junior Parent/Teacher Meetings for Years 9-10. These will be run online from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, as such school will finish for all students at 12:00pm.
We are excited to announce the annual Wellington East Girls’ College Food Fair. The Food Fair will take place on Friday 10th May from 5-8pm in our school hall and bottom floor of Matairangi.
Unfortunately due to the weather the decision has been made to CANCEL the House Sports Carnival that was to be held today. We will have a non-uniform day and students are encouraged to wear their house colours. There will still be a sausage sizzle in the Quad at lunchtime.
Our annual Learning Conferences will be held on 14 / 15 March 2024. Students will have work set by their teachers and will be learning from home on these days, when they are not attending their Learning Conference.
For those in our school community who have an interest in joining the WEGC Board, there is an opportunity to join the board this year. We are running our mid term election in November and have two vacancies.
Notification of Extra-Curricular Ban and Paid Union Meeting
PPTA have notified that there will be a ban on members' supervision or participation in extra-curricular activities on Wednesday 21 June and Paid Union Meeting on the afternoon of Monday 26 June.
The PPTA has informed the Wellington East Girls’ College Board that its member teachers at our school will be resuming industrial action on Monday 12 June until Friday 30 June.
The PPTA have advised the industrial action is to recommence effective 12:00am Wednesday 31 May 2023. This means the rostering home days will begin again from Thursday 1 June.

The Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) has indicated to the Wellington East Girls’ College Board that teachers at our school will be taking part in the national strike action on Wednesday 29 March 2023. The strike will affect all students.
Learning Conferences are scheduled for 23 and 24 March. These are an annual meeting to help develop a strong learning partnership between the student, their whānau and their Ako teacher. Students will have work set by their teachers and will be learning from home on these days when not attending their Learning Conference.

A reminder that there will be no classes Sessions 1-3 tomorrow as teachers will be attending a Paid Union Meeting. Session 4 classes will be running as normal (1.50-3.20) and all Yr 9 and 10 students are expected to attend.
We have three upcoming Teacher Only Days, and the Wellington East Girls’ College Branch of the PPTA has advised that there will be a Paid Union Meeting (PUM) for members of the PPTA.
