Following yesterday afternoon’s wintry weather and snow flurries, we experienced severe traffic congestion on Drive A at the end of the school day. Drive A was blocked in both directions, creating a significant Health and Safety risk for our students. Because Drive A is one of our main pedestrian egress points, gridlocked traffic severely compromises the safety of students leaving the school grounds.
I am writing to remind our entire school community of our driveway rules and expectations:
Vehicle access to school driveways is strictly prohibited for parents and caregivers between
Monday to Thursday
8.30 - 9.15am and 2.30 - 3.45 pm
Friday
8.30 - 9.15am and 1.45 - 3.00pm
Parking is available along surrounding residential streets. Please arrange to meet your student off-site so they can safely walk down to meet you.
Staff stationed at driveway access points are there to ensure student safety. Yesterday, several staff members asking drivers to move on were ignored or met with pushback. This behavior is unacceptable. If a staff member asks you to move your vehicle, you must comply immediately and respectfully.
All members of our community are expected to uphold our standards of safety and mutual respect, as outlined in our Kura Community Conduct Expectations policy. This includes following any reasonable requests or instructions from staff to safeguard our students.
You can view the full policy by accessing SchoolDocs which is also accessible via the website
We appreciate your immediate cooperation in keeping our driveways clear and our students safe during these winter conditions.
Ngā mihi,
Gael Ashworth
