Matariki Dawn Ceremony - Friday 5th July 2024

Mānawatia a Matariki! Ngā mihi o te tau hou kia koutou katoa,

On behalf of the WEGC Te Ao Māori learning area and the student-run Kaupapa Māori Committee, we would like to formally invite you all to attend our Matariki dawn ceremony to welcome in the Māori New Year.

This ceremony will be held on the 5th of July at the Wellington East Girls College quad. The ceremony will start at 6 am and finish at approx. 6.30 am. This will be followed by a shared breakfast in the cafe. Please meet inside the school building at 5:50 am to be welcomed out to the quad.

Everyone is welcome to attend and witness this amazing ceremony as a wider school whānau. We will have singing, kapa haka, and entertainment to commemorate the new year!

We look forward to seeing you all there to celebrate with us!
