Tēnā koutou kātoa,

I hope that this finds you and your whānau well. Today the Prime Minister announced that New Zealand will remain at Level 4 until midnight Tuesday 24 August. We are assuming that students will be engaged in distance learning for all of next week, and have made changes to the East@home learning programme to reflect this extended period away from face to face learning.

Please find a link to East@home learning programme.

This contains the detailed information for parents and students related to learning next week.

It is important that your child attends the first Ako session at 10.40am on Monday 23 August. This session is an opportunity for the Ako teacher to go through the learning programme and answer any questions students may have.

I understand that the possibility of an extended lockdown can be stressful for students who are working towards national qualifications (NCEA). The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has been in touch with schools, reminding us that there is flexibility within the NCEA system, designed to ensure that students from 2021 will not be disadvantaged by current events.

The wellbeing of the students and everyone within our school community is paramount at this time. Ako teachers, Deans, and our Hauora team of Guidance Counsellors continue to be available to support students and families.  Please don’t hesitate to contact one of them if you have any concerns. General queries about the lockdown and our ‘East@home’ programme can be emailed to wegc@wegc.school.nz

A current  staff list can be found on on our website - https://www.wegc.school.nz/our-school/staff

If you are aware of any students in our school community who may not have easy access to a device that they can use for school work at home, please email Deputy Principal - Pastoral Care, Melissa Denzler melissa.denzler@wegc.school.nz

I will be back in touch following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Tuesday.

Ngā mihi

Gael Ashworth
